[review] Lime Law 02 (part1)
Oct. 23rd, 2007 12:24 pmThis is also only my own personal opinion it is no objective review. AT all. AND it also is NOT intended to do harm just post my opinion.
Part 2 will follow soon, i haven't read the story-parts. So part 2 will include them.
So it's about time i write this cause i have this for quite some weeks now ^^; Ah.. i don#t know why it's in english, maybe because some may interest it and may be interested inwhat i think about manga storytelling in general? dunno.
Lime Law 2 by Fireangels, 263 pages (incl. some color pages), 6,50€

Overall appearance: i was very suprised that it turned out this big/fat. So many pages to go :D So the cover looks nice and interesting too, the idea with the lime is cute and nice. A plus I'd say for optics. The back is not so nice. I personally hate my pic there. It was done in a rush and .. it's ugly. But the colors are nice and bright, so you can see the text. that's okay.

I .. personally don't like that 3D-ish artworks but i like this one ^^; looks nice and is a good introduction to the book.
08/15 by Layann
08/15 story.. and okay artwork. I could have done more. I'm not satisfied with it. ><; read yourself. its a... "nearly okay" story. A feel free to give me critique i mean.. i did it with the artists so you can do if you readit. Please.
Puppetmaster by Lorialet
Honestly i can't bring myself to like this. I don't have anything against Lorialet in person but the style is absolutely not my thing. But start first. The story itself.. is not that bad. but the perfomance is bad. I had a hard time following the (too short) story vcia the speech bubbles, they seem so out of place sometimes and there's no real speech flow. I could not make out what was meant and sometimes even what they were doing: I think that is a very great minus. And that has nothing to do with style ^^; So come to the artworks itself. Hm.. so yes as i said the style is not my thing but also it looks (style or not) like it's done in a rush and all so scribbly. but not in a good way. and I also don't think thats style. Also i have the opinion that her use of japanese words and oldfashined design is totally out of place. Sad but i think so. So for me this story is definitely a WTF? i thought it was just strange.
"Tribut an einen Dämon" by Studio Kosaru
Ah oh where to start. by story i think. So this was kinda interesting. I honestly think this story deserved FAR more pages. And i mean FAR more.
For the story development and reading flow: I think it was okay to read you could understand the story. But as i said it needed more pages.. because sometimes it was a little too rushed or there were bits i think needed to be drawn or shown. Wlel but okay for a short story.
So onto the artwork. I have to say it again: it is again not my thing. Kosaru is.. well.. yes not my stlye. But that should not be a problem but the problem i think here is it looked so horrible rushed. The artwork sometimes looks as if drawn by a six year old, scribbly and extremely unclean wich really dissapointed me. There's no real love or life behind it, sadly.
So the story itself is cliche but the setting is nice.
Boy meets Girl? by Callisto
Also a very typical Bl story but most of the BL stories are stereotypical. *shrugs* hm to the story and the reading: Its a very developed style of drawing and storytelling wich made the reading of that story very pleasurable cause you had no... "disturbances" in reading, as you may call that. there could also be more pages but it's okay. The artworks are good and i think unique in style wich is a very welcomed change here. So all in all a nice short story.
A friendly turn von Tam-Tam
Also a very very sterotypical story but the way tamtam tells the story is entertaining and nice. It has a soft flow and it's very cute if you ask me. Artworks are cute have a nice style. There are MINOR really small places where i'd say it's stilla bit unclean but the rest is okay. So all in all a very nice story nothing outstanding but readable and enjoyable.
Blutige Federn by Studio Kosaru
Aoh.. well Kosaru again. Hm to style and stuffi don't need to say much more. Okay they are better than in "Tribut an einen Dämon" that's for sure. And theres seemingly more life behind it.
Story is.. okay could also have been more pages or more developing. But most of the time it though "WTF?" and the sex was.. just out of place and not even a turn on. Thats what i MISS IN MOST STORIES: the character development is not there. They interact but they really don't develope together wich would explain them having sex. You know what i mean? i hate reading stories where the characters seemingly don't change at all and build up NO relation to the other and then suddenly they fuck and i am just wondering WHERE they built up that attraction at least. (i'm not even talking about love). That applies to manymany stories (written or drawn) unfortunately. ;_;
----
So after all .. i .was kinda dissapointed cause there are those "bought" stories from Kosaru and they weren't even good. I wish there'd be more people from germany or other newcomers there to draw.
But that it has 263 pages and a normal manga for the same price aroun 130 is worth a thought. I will change to a REAL conclusion once i've read the stories.
So to come with the next update:

Date: 2007-11-10 11:23 pm (UTC)First of all: thanks a very much for the words about the limelaw parts. Actually no one wrote some critique or something close to it. Which made it very hard for me to know what to do better or what do readers want or like cause we all have no idea. So yes, if you have some minutes i would like to read more critique-points wich i'm sure there are alot. ^^;
Right now i'm considering of not doing anything like that again.. I'm taking a little "break" or whatever it is called from art. So the "new releases" will then be without any stuff from me ó_ò~
